ITA CINI at 38

CINI celebrated 38th years in serving children, adolescents and women in need on February 1, 2012, in the Science City Auditorium, Kolkata. The two-part event observed the celebration of the 38th anniversary of CINI.

The first part of the event was an open to all program to rejoice the foundation day and the second part was a closed door planning meet to launch the project ‘The 1000 Days approach to Malnutrition in West Bengal: The window of opportunity” in association with the Govt. of West Bengal, Unicef. 

In the first half, with the presence of Smt. Sabitri Mitra (Hon’ MIC, Women & Child Dev. Govt. of WB), Shri Dilip Mondol (MLA, WB), Dr. Samir Chaudhuri (Founder Director CINI), Prof. Sunit Mukherjee (Chairman, CINI) and Dr. Subhas Pandey(State Immunisation Officer/Deputy Director Child Health, govt. of Chattishgarh) on the stage, a group of children performed a beautiful dance recital.

The recital was followed by an audio-visual presentation of CINI’s journey so far. Smt. Tulika Das (Director Sanchar), Shri Sushanta Ghosh (IBM, Kolkata) were felicitated for their contribution to social causes in West Bengal. The brave young girls from Murshidabad district who were awarded the President of India’s prize to say “No to Child Marriage” were also felicitated. This half ended with the motivational & inspirational speech by the delegates and a sincere assurance by the Hon’ Minister that she and her dept. will extend support to CINI whenever required. 

The second half started at 3 p.m, the planning meet to launch the project ‘The 1000 Days approach to Malnutrition in West Bengal: The window of opportunity”.

In this State Consultation, the HUNGaMA Report was presented by the Team Leader (Ms. Rohini Mukherjee) of the survey and elicit views on the pilot interventions in Jalpaiguri district and Kolkata. A number of senior government officials, the Principal Secretaries of Women and Child Development & Social Welfare, Health and Family Welfare, NRHM Mission Director, UNICEF and Save the Children India representatives participated, besides academicians and NGOs were present in the meet. Ms. Minakshi Singh, Nutrition Specialist, Unicef WB, exhibit her presentation on “ The Situational Analysis & tends of Malnutrition in West Bengal”, Ms. Soma Chakrabarty, Senior Nutriotinist CINI, presented with the 1000 days program approach which followed by an open forum discussion. Finally, a Vote of thanks by Mr. Rajib K. Halder (Additional Director, CINI) ended the day long celebration of CINI’s 38 years.
